They are changing
Like I thought they would, Maia's eyes seem to be slowly but surely changing colour. They have been a grey/blue colour from birth but with the amount of brown eyes in the family I was sure they wouldn't last. As you can see in this picture there is a ring of light brown around the pupil and I think they will end up being that colour.

Labour Weekend Part 1
On Friday morning around 5am Dean had a brainstorm that we pack up the car and hit the road. I was a bit cranky about it at first being a bit tired and all, but luckily I had packed most of our stuff the night before so it didn't take long. We packed the kids in the car in their pj's and got underway, it turned out to be a pretty good idea as there was no traffic on the motorway and we got to the Mount in record time. Dean worked from there for the day, the bonus of his type of work, just set up the laptop and away you go. The kids and I went out visiting and caught up on some sleep in the afternoon.
Saturday we repacked our things into Dads car and headed over to Opotiki. That evening we celebrated my cousin Ari's 21st birthday and engagement announcement. It was great catching up with the whanau.

Labour Weekend part 2
On Sunday we headed up the Coast to Te Kaha to plant some trees and tidy up a bit. Dean planted two Kowhai tree's where Nathan and Maia's Whenua (placenta's) have been buried. Hopefully the tree's grow well and the kids can admire them as their own special trees as both they and the trees grow.
We also planted flax and some fruit trees that we hope the possums don't help themselves to too much. Nathan had a great time hanging out with the cuzzies, and the little city boy even charged around with his bare feet like them.

Any Similarities
My two babies! Nathan loves lying next to his sister and have me say that to them :) I look at them and notice some similarities but lots of differences too. When Maia was first born we couldn't get over how much she looked like Nathan did when he first popped out. It only lasted a couple of days before she started getting her own look. They are quite different as babies, personality wise. This one sleeps a lot easier than her brother did, yay! She is just a lot quieter. She chats and smiles away but looking back at videos of Nathan the same age, he was a lot more vocal.
They are quite different physically too, well one is a boy and one is a girl, he he. But Nathan is a Dairy Milk and Maia is a Milky Bar. Much like my brother and I, he is the darker one, and I'm the whitey, I'm jealous of my brothers nice tan, wishing I could get that colour. As well as skin colour Maia's eyes and hair are a lot lighter too.
As much as they are different, I love them just the same :) And I'm sure there are lots of similarities too. Can you see any?

Our Weekend
Saturday morning I did a housework mission. Nathan helped out with the mopping :) Later that afternoon we had Erin and Luca come to stay the night before heading to a family function the next day. Luca took a little while but she eventually warmed up to Nathan and they played well together.
On Sunday the weather was all over the place but we really wanted to get out of the house so we jumped into the car and grabbed a pizza to eat on One Tree Hill. It was pretty windy so we ate in the car, and when there was a break in the rain Dean took Nathan outside where they didn't last long for fear of being blown down the hill!!

Making Fun While the Sun Shines
Last week we had some horrible stormy days with some thunder, lightning and hail so on Thursday when some sun shone through the clouds we got on the phone and organised a trip to the park with Jenny & Patrick. The boys had a great time on the playground and running around with the ball, although at one point we had to chase them down as they had taken off to the otherside of the field out of sight!! It was good to get out of the house!
We had some nice weather on the weekend too, so Saturday the whanau went to Mission Bay for a walk and a play in the sand.
Sunday Dean and Troy took Nathan and Ayla up to Omaha with them where they trialled to new Torpedo fish catcher. No Fish though. Later that afternoon we had Nana Dulcie over who had not yet met her new great grand daughter.
